"Judges III"

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH): and the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.
And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel: and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strong holds. And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them;  and they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, till thou come unto Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass. For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as grasshoppers for multitude; for both they and their camels were without number: and they entered into the land to destroy it. And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH).
And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) because of the Midianites, that the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land; and I said unto you, I am the YHVH (YEHOVAH) your Almighty; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.
And there came an angel of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH), and sat under an oak which wasin Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abi-ezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH), if the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) bring us up from Egypt? but now the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. And the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? And he said unto him, Oh my Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH), wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house. And the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man. And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in your sight, then shew me a sign that you talked with me.
Depart not hence, I pray you, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until thou come again. And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it

And the angel of Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) said unto him, "Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth". And he did so.
Then the angel of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) departed out of his sight
And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH), Gideon said, Alas, O Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH)! for because I have seen an angel of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) face to face.
And the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) said unto him,
Peace be unto thee; fear not: you shalt not die.

"Judges II "

Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time. And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Beth-el in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,

Praise you the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH)
for the avenging of Israel,

when the people willingly offered themselves.
 Hear, O you kings; give ear, O you princes;
I, even I, will sing unto the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH);
I will sing praise to the KING Almighty of Israel.
 YHVH (YEHOVAH), when You wend out of Seir,
when You march out of the field of Edom,
the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped,
the clouds also dropped water.

The mountains melted from before the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH),

even that Sinai from before the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) of Israel.

In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath,

in the days of Jael,
the highways were unoccupied,
and the travellers walked through byways.

The inhabitants of the villages ceased,

they ceased in Israel,
until that I Deborah arose,
that I arose a mother in Israel.

They chose new gods;

then was war in the gates:
was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?
 My heart is toward the governors of Israel,
that offered themselves willingly among the people.
Bless you the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH).
 Speak, ye that ride on white asses,
you that sit in judgment, and walk by the way.

They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH)even the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) go down to the gates.

 Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song:
arise, Barak, and lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam.
 Then he made him that remaineth have dominion over the nobles among the people: the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) made me have dominion over the mighty.
Out of Ephraim was there a root of them against Amalek;
after thee, Benjamin, among thy people;
out of Machir came down governors,
and out of Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer.
 And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah;
even Issachar, and also Barak:
he was sent on foot into the valley.
For the divisions of Reuben there were great thoughts of heart.
 Why abodest thou among the sheepfolds,
to hear the bleatings of the flocks?
For the divisions of Reuben there were great searchings of heart.
 Gilead abode beyond Jordan:
and why did Dan remain in ships?
Asher continued on the sea shore,
and abode in his breaches.
Zebulun and Naphtali were a people that jeoparded their lives
unto the death in the high places of the field.
 The kings came and fought,
then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo;
they took no gain of money.
 They fought from heaven;
the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.
 The river of Kishon swept them away,
that ancient river, the river Kishon.
O my soul, thou hast trodden down strength.
 Then were the horsehoofs broken by the means of the pransings,
the pransings of their mighty ones.
 Curse you Meroz, said the angel of the Almighty YHVH(YEHOVAH),
curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof;
because they came not to the help of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH),
to the help of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) against the mighty.
 Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be,
blessed shall she be above women in the tent.
 He asked water, and she gave him milk;
she brought forth butter in a lordly dish.
 She put her hand to the nail,
and her right hand to the workmen’s hammer;
and with the hammer she smote Sisera,
she smote off his head,
when she had pierced and stricken through his temples.
 At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down:
at her feet he bowed, he fell:
where he bowed, there he fell down dead.

The mother of Sisera looked out at a window,

and cried through the lattice,
Why is his chariot so long in coming?
why tarry the wheels of his chariots?
 Her wise ladies answered her, yea, she returned answer to herself,
 Have they not sped?
have they not divided the prey;
to every man a damsel or two;
to Sisera a prey of divers colours,
a prey of divers colours of needlework,
of divers colours of needlework on both sides,
meet for the necks of them that take the spoil?
 So let all thine enemies perish, O Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH):
but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might.

"Judges I "

Othniel: the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.
And when the children of Israel cried unto the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH), the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. And the Spirit of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) delivered Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushan-rishathaim.

Ehudthe son of Gera, a Benjamite.

And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH), but when the children of Israel cried unto the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH), the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, a man lefthanded: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto Eglon the king of Moab. But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he did gird it under his raiment upon his right thigh. And he brought the present unto Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon was a very fat man. And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that bare the present.  But he (Ehud) himself turned again from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand unto thee, O king: who said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him. And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone. And Ehud said, I have a message from Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) unto thee. And he arose out of his seatAnd Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his bellyand the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out. Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlour upon him, and locked them.
When he was gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that, behold, the doors of the parlour were locked, they said, Surely he covered his feet in his summer chamber. And they tarried till they were ashamed: and, behold, he opened not the doors of the parlour; therefore they took a key, and opened them: and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth. And Ehud escaped while they tarried, and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto SeirathAnd it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.
And he (Ehud) said unto them, Follow after me: for the YHVH (YEHOVAH) Almighty hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan toward Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over. And they slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all lusty, and all men of valor; and there escaped not a man. So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest fourscore years.

"Joshua/Jehoshua"

Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) it came to pass, that the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying

Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto MosesFrom the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast. There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee

Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt you divide for an inheritance the land, which I swear unto their fathers to give them

Only be thou strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper whithersoever you go.

This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shalt meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shalt make your way prosperous, and then you shalt have good success.

Have not I commanded thee?
Be strong and of a good courage;
be not afraid,
neither be you dismayed:
for YHVH (YEHOVAH) your Almighty is
with thee
whithersoever you go.

"Caleb"

And the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) spake unto Moses, saying,

"Send you men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, every one a ruler among them".
And Moses by the commandment of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.

 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain: and see the land, what it is; and the people that dweller therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many; and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;  and what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the fir stripe grapes.
So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to HamathAnd they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anakwere. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs. The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.
 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land. And they told him, and said,
We came unto the land whither you sent us, and surely it flow with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said,
"Let us go up at once, and possess it;
for we are well able to overcome it".

 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, it is a land that eats its inhabitants; and all the people we saw in it are men of great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night. And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) we had died in this wilderness!
And wherefore hath the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt? And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel. And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes: and they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
 "If the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which flow with milk and honey".
Only rebel not you against the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH)
neither fear you the people of the land; for they are bread for us:
their defense is departed from them,
and the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) is with us:
 fear them not!
But all the congregation bade stone them with stones.
And the Glory of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.
And the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) said unto Moses,
How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?
I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

And Moses said unto the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH)
"Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for you brought up this people in thy might from among them;) and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that You YHVH (YEHOVAH) are among this people, that You YHVH (YEHOVAH) art seen face to face, and that thy cloud stand over them, and that You go before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night. Now if You shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying, Because the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) was not able to bring this people into the land which he swear unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness. And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) be great, according as You hast spoken, saying, "The Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) is long suffering, and of Great Mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generationPardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
And the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) said, I have pardoned according to your word: but as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Almighty YHVH (YEHOVAH) Because all those men which have seen My Glory, and My Miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; surely they shall not see the land which I swear unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: but my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land where into he went; and his seed shall possess it.
